Reading exchange fees inside a contribution calculator

Recurring crypto buys look tidy until maker/taker fees and network costs enter the spreadsheet — a practical way to keep PC calculator projections honest.

Reading exchange fees inside a contribution calculator

Clients often paste optimistic cumulative totals from a fee-blind calculator. In session we rebuild the same schedule with venue costs switched on.

Separate percentage and fixed costs

Percentage taker fees scale with each buy. Network or withdrawal costs appear less often but hurt small tickets. Put both into the PC planner as distinct lines so you can see which one dominates at your contribution size.

Test a larger interval

If fees dominate, lengthening the interval and raising the amount often helps more than hunting a slightly cheaper venue. We show both options side by side before changing exchanges — venue switches have their own operational cost.

Keep a fee review date

Fee schedules change. Add a calendar reminder every six months to re-check your venue’s published rates and update the calculator. A stale fee assumption is as misleading as an inflated contribution amount.
